A two-day exploration into this small yet exceptional object.
MS.8932 is a medieval embroidered folded almanac, and its background context will be revealed through powerpoint presentations. This will set the scene for some practice-based learning, to gain a greater appreciation of the work involved in MS.8932’s production. Students will have the opportunity to make their own folded paper manuscript, providing visual comprehension of its unusual format. This will be followed by an investigation of one small area of the embroidered cover. Stitch skills will be absorbed through the making of large-scale test pieces, with the option of continuing with more appropriate materials.
